Believe it or not, artificial lawns can be a more environmentally friendly option that a natural lawn. While grass does produce oxygen when the sun is shining, the rest of the time it doesn’t do a lot of good for the environment. In fact, it produces something called VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds, which include methane, acetone and ethanol) every time it’s cut, which can be dangerous to the local wildlife. Add in the chemical cocktail of fumes and fuel used by lawnmowers, and your neatly kept lawn produces more greenhouse gas than it soaks up.
